Our Volunteer Roles

If you’re interested in volunteering with Shelter Community, explore the opportunities here and complete our enquiry form below to begin your journey.

Once we receive your form, we’ll be in touch to invite you for a conversation about the role and answer any questions you may have. After that, we’ll ask you to complete a short application and provide references. All volunteers make a commitment to the role and attend an induction to ensure you feel confident and supported from the start.

  • Coaches at Shelter Community play a vital role in supporting young people as they work toward meaningful, achievable goals. As a caring and consistent adult, the Coach listens, encourages, and guides the young person. Helping them build confidence, develop life skills, and take positive steps forward.

Coaches commit to supporting a young person on a weekly basis for at least 12 months, creating stability and trust throughout the journey. They also offer practical support where needed, such as exploring education or work opportunities, helping with language skills, or supporting with homework.

Together with the young person, Coaches develop a personalised coaching plan that outlines goals, actions, and opportunities for growth. By modelling healthy communication, setting boundaries, and recognising each young person’s unique strengths, Coaches help build a supportive and empowering relationship that fosters long‑term development.

  • Food has a special way of bringing people together, creating comfort, connection, and a true sense of community. As a Kitchen Support Volunteer, you play an important role in shaping this atmosphere for the young people in our homes. A shared meal can make a huge difference by offering stability, warmth, and a moment of togetherness in their day.

To help build this sense of community, we ask volunteers to serve regularly and feel confident cooking for around 10–15 people. Your time, energy, and hospitality contribute far beyond the plate, as they help create a home where young people feel valued and cared for.

  • As a Fundraising Volunteer, you help bring people together to make safe and welcoming homes possible for young people. By inspiring others to support our mission and contributing to community initiatives and events, you play an essential part in building the resources that create real change.

Your commitment helps provide homes and a sense of belonging for those who need it most.
